What is a PTC heater and how does it work?

It is suitable for unlimited fields, such as heaters of metal objects, water tanks, radiators, etc.

What is a PTC heater and how does it work?

PTC heater is called positive temperature coefficient, which is a unique technology that replaces traditional hot wire heating with ceramic stones or chips. Simple changes in materials make PTC heaters the product of choice for long-lasting perming tools.

PTC heaters usually operate at temperatures up to 518F (270C), while traditional red hot wire heaters can reach 900°F (482°C). You might think that a lower operating temperature will bring a smaller safety increase. Therefore, since PTC stones or chips do not generate heat at a constant rate, it will cool down quickly to prevent overheating. Even if you forget to turn off the device and leave it there, the temperature will not rise to about 400 degrees Celsius.


Longer Like all other equipment, the higher the temperature, the longer you stay and the shorter the service life. It's also like overheating of a mobile phone or laptop. But PTC only generates the heat needed to achieve its pre-set goals-from FBT, a Chinese steel manufacturer. This limits the overheating of flat irons or curling irons, which means less chance of burning and longer life.

Sometimes, people always ask our factory to increase the temperature speed as fast as possible, but for PTC, even if we have pre-programmed the PCB, it still has different speeds on different products even if we use the same PCB. Why is it? This is because the PTC only gently generates the target heat in accordance with the program requirements, so it is not known whether the heat has been dissipated into the air. Therefore, if the probe of the temperature tester is placed in different positions of the heating plate, the temperature speed will be different.
