What does electric car PTC mean? How to use the PTC button for electric vehicles?

Nov 16, 2022

What does electric vehicle PTC mean is a DC PTC heater on electric vehicles, which is a ceramic heater.

Since electric vehicles, PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) heaters have been mostly used. For example, Mitsubishi Motors' i‐MiEV uses a PTC heater to heat circulating water, and Nissan's Leaf, which will be launched in FY2010, uses a PTC heater to directly heat air. Later, Nissan's air heaters were understood to have undergone considerable changes, or abandoned in favor of point-to-point, face-to-face heating.

ptc is the abbreviation of Positive Temperature Coefficient, which means positive temperature coefficient, which generally refers to semiconductor materials or components with a large positive temperature coefficient. Usually we refer to PTC refers to positive temperature coefficient thermistors, referred to as PTC thermistors.

PTC thermistor is a typical temperature-sensitive semiconductor resistance, above a certain temperature (Curie temperature), its resistance value increases step by step with temperature.

Ceramic PTC is a semiconductor ceramic made by sintering barium titanate (or strontium, lead) as the main component, adding a small amount of donor (Y, Nb, Bi, Sb), acceptor (Mn, Fe) elements, and glass (silicon oxide, alumina) and other additives.

Ceramic PTC has a small resistance below the Curie temperature, and the resistance step above the Curie temperature increases by 1000 times ~ million times.

How to use the PTC button for electric vehicles

This is the warm air switch of the electric car, and the air conditioning system can blow out the warm air after pressing this switch. PTC is a ceramic heater. Since electric vehicles do not have an engine, the heat of the engine cannot be used when the air conditioning of the electric vehicle is heated. When a gasoline car is heated, it is the heat of the engine that is used.

When the air conditioner of the gasoline car is heated, the high-temperature coolant in the engine will flow through the warm air tank, and the wind blowing from the blower will also pass through the warm air tank, so that the air outlet of the car air conditioner can blow warm air.

When the car air conditioner is refrigerated, the compressor clutch is combined, and the engine can drive the compressor to run.

When the compressor is running, the refrigerant can be continuously compressed and transported to the evaporation tank.

The refrigerant can continuously expand and absorb heat in the evaporation box, so that the refrigerant can cool the evaporation box.

The cooled evaporation box can cool the wind blown by the blower, so that the air outlet of the car air conditioner can blow cold air.

The refrigerant used in car air conditioning is R134A, and car air conditioning needs to add refrigerant regularly.

If refrigerant is not added for a long time, it will lead to a slower cooling speed and poor cooling effect in the car air conditioner.

When using the car at ordinary times, we must regularly add refrigerant to the car air conditioner, and be sure to clean the air conditioning system of the car regularly.

Car air conditioners can breed a lot of bacteria inside for a long time.
